Side note: Each night since we returned from Thailand, as we have sat and listened to fireworks go on and on into the night, I can't help but think how frightening these sounds would be for someone from Afghanistan or Pakistan or Iraq. It makes me so sad to think of the children who go to sleep every night listening to such sounds, not knowing if the bomb burst is headed for their bedroom or not. Pray for peace to come from the Prince of Peace.

Tonight is the final night of the Chinese New Year's celebrations, also known as 元宵节 (Yuánxiāo jié) or the Lantern Festival. You can read more about it here, but from our vantage point, it seems to mainly involve setting off more fireworks than I ever thought humans could produce. See for yourselves:
